Because of the long-running Tony Award-winning musical “The Phantom of the Opera,” the Ahmanson began to use the UCLA Hollywood Theatre, James A. Doolittle, as an exchange space. After “The Phantom of the Opera” closed in August 1993, the Ahmanson went on a 17 million dollar reconstruction project. The opening season in the new Ahmanson began with “Candide.”
